Below is a more detailed description of each point. These are the reasons
that we joined ACTION in March 1984.
1. Biblically Based — The Bible is ACTION’s source book of principles
and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16-17: “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction,
for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” 1 Timothy
1:5: “But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” 2
Timothy 4:2: “...preach the Word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience
and instruction.” Colossians 3:16-17: “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching
and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever
you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.”)
2.
Centrality of the Gospel — which is the Power of God unto salvation. (Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the
gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
Galatians 6:14: “But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through
which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”)
3. Active Ministries — majoring in evangelism,
discipleship, and development. (Matthew 28:19-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with
you always, even to the end of the age.”)
4. A Mission of Action — seeking to work quickly in areas of need.
(1 Corinthians 15:58: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the
Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.” Philippians 4:10-20: “But I rejoiced in the Lord
greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity.
Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with
humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being
filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
Nevertheless, you have done well to share with me in my affliction. You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first
preaching of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone;
for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs. Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the
profit which increases to your account. But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied,
having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God. And
my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Now to our God and Father be the glory
forever and ever. Amen.”)
5. Willing to Take Risks — turning faith into action by trusting God in
difficult situations. (1 Corinthians 16:13-14: “Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let
all that you do be done in love.” 2 Timothy 1:7-12: “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but
of power and love and discipline. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join
with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not
according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,
but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality
to light through the gospel, for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher. For this reason I also suffer
these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have
entrusted to Him until that day.”)
6. Flexibility in Ministry — Open to God’s leading as confirmed
by the team and leaders. (2 Thessalonians 3:1-5: “Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread
rapidly, and be glorified, just as it did also with you; and that we will be rescued from perverse and evil men; for not all
have faith. But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. We have confidence in the
Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command. May the Lord direct your hearts into the
love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.”)
7. Leadership Development — within ACTION and
among those with whom we work. (Matthew 28:19-20: ““Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo,
I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” 2 Corinthians 1:24: “Not that we lord it over your faith,
but are workers with you for your joy; for in your faith you are standing firm.” 1 Corinthians 16:13-18: “Be
on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love. Now I urge you, brethren
(you know the household of Stephanas, that they were the first fruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves for
ministry to the saints), that you also be in subjection to such men and to everyone who helps in the work and labors. I rejoice
over the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus, because they have supplied what was lacking on your part. For they
have refreshed my spirit and yours. Therefore acknowledge such men.”)
8. Emphasis on True Fellowship —
within ACTION and in the local church. (Hebrews 10:23-25: “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering,
for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our
own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing
near.”)
9. Family Atmosphere — Leaders and team members seek to care for each other and families.
(Galatians 6:1-6: “Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in
a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens,
and thereby fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But each
one must examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to
another. For each one will bear his own load. The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who
teaches him.”)
10. Team Work and Respect for One Another — Working together as part of the body of
Christ. (2 Timothy 2:1-6: “You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. The things which you
have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs
of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does
not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules. The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his
share of the crops.”)
12. Communication — to keep up-to-date with team members, network ministries,
and churches. (1 Thessalonians 5:13-22: “...and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live
in peach with one another. We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient
with everyone. See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another
and for all people. Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you
in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances. But examine everything carefully; hold fast
to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil.”)
13. Emphasis on Joyful Holiness of Life in Christ
— Enjoying Christian fellowship and ministry as a family. (Philippians 4:4-7: “Rejoice in the Lord always; again
I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything
by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses
all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Colossians 1:9-12: “For this
reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge
of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him
in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according
to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has
qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.”)
